Morningside’s women’s bowling team made a solid showing at the Hastings Bronco Open.

Morningside’s women’s bowling team made its strongest showing of the season to date at this past weekend’s Hastings College Bronco Open in Hastings, Neb.

The Mustangs finished third in a four-team field, but qualified for the best two of three match play portion of the tournament, where it lost two games to one against eventual runner-up Hastings. After Hastings won the first game 181-144, the Mustangs rebounded to take the second game 173-167 and they held a 20-pin lead with three frames left in the final game. Hastings came back to win 158-143 before it lost against Midland in the championship match.

Katie Pearson, a freshman from Sioux City, led the Mustangs with a 150-pin average at the tournament.

Morningside finished seventh in an eight-team men’s field. The University of Nebraska won the team title and Midland was the runner-up.

Jesse Nissen, a senior from Terril, Iowa, was the top individual finisher for the Mustang men. He finished 20th in the individual standings with a 181-pin average.

Morningside will host the Mustang Open on Dec. 6 and 7.
