The Morningside College chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) was recognized recently at the organization’s national leadership workshop in Minneapolis, Minn.

ALD is a national honor society that promotes and recognizes academic excellence in the first year of college and provides training for sophomore members in leadership, service and communication at its annual leadership workshop. The organization has chapters at over 270 colleges and universities in the United States.

At the workshop, the Morningside chapter received awards for outstanding recruiting and outstanding chapter activities, and Morningside student Natasha Hongsermeier of Phillips, Neb., co-facilitated a session on situations that arise in local chapters to challenge student leaders. Hongsermeier is currently one of three student representatives on the National Council of ALD.

Other Morningside students who attended the conference were Jacque Carlson of Emmetsburg, Iowa, who is president of the Morningside chapter, and Tracy Oeltjenbruns of Dayton, Iowa, who is vice president. Dr. Marty Knepper, chapter adviser and professor and chair of English at Morningside, accompanied the students.
