Morningside College recently announced three new faculty members in the arts and the humanities.

The new faculty members are Jerry R. Ditter, assistant professor of theatre; Jean Hickman, assistant professor of music; and Heather Wilburn, visiting assistant professor of philosophy and religious studies.

Ditter previously was an instructor, director and stage manager at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. He also has taught at community colleges, and has experience in the professional management of theatres in Grand Junction and in Omaha, Neb. Ditter has a master’s degree in dramatic arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Hickman most recently directed choirs at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She has taught at other colleges and locally at Western Iowa Tech Community College, West High School and East Middle School. She has received educator awards from the Sioux City Community Schools, Morningside College and the University of Iowa. Hickman is completing a doctorate in music education and choral conducting from the University of Florida.

Wilburn most recently was a lecturer at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She also has taught at other colleges in Oklahoma and Illinois. Her area of specialty is 19th- and 20th-century continental philosophy, especially Kant, Hegel and Adorno. Wilburn has a doctorate in philosophy from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
