Katie Kuck’s play at the Baker Invitational earned her GPAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Katie Kuck, a 5-5 sophomore libero from Council Bluffs, Iowa, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 1-7.

Kuck had 79 digs in the Mustangs’ four matches at this past weekend’s Baker University Invitational for an average of 5.64 digs per set. She matched her career high with 32 digs to go along with an ace serve in the Mustangs’ 3-2 victory against Sterling College.

She had 13 digs in a 3-0 loss against Graceland University, 12 digs and one ace serve in a 3-0 loss against Baker, and 22 digs and an ace serve in a 3-0 victory against John Brown University.

Kuck is averaging a team-high 4.78 digs per set for the season and is second on the Mustangs with 14 ace serves.

Morningside will take a 10-3 record into Wednesday’s 7:30 p.m. GPAC opener in Orange City, Iowa, against nationally ranked Northwestern College. The Red Raiders are ranked fifth in the first regular season Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll released Tuesday.
