Kukuk Named To All-GPAC First-Team For Third Time
Morningside men’s and women’s soccer head coach Tom Maxon is one of the instructors on the staff for this summer’s Ultimate Soccer Academy hosted by Morningside, Briar Cliff, and the Siouxland Soccer Foundation.
The academy, open to boys and girls ages 17 and under, has two sessions during the month of June.

Kate Goss and Maggie Kukuk have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes in the sport of women’s soccer.
Goss, a senior midfielder from Omaha, Neb. Goss has a 3.64 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in general psychology. Goss was the Mustangs’ second leading scorer this season with seven goals and a team-high nine assists for 23 points.
Kukuk, a senior forward from Sioux City. Kukuk has a 3.51 cumulative GPA with a major in elementary education. Kukuk led the Mustangs with 11 goals and added five assists for a team-high 27 points. She finished her career as Morningside’s all-time leader with 39 career assists and 18 career game-winning goals.
Student-athletes must be of at least junior academic status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to be eligible for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Maggie Kukuk, a senior forward from Sioux City, was the leading scorer for the Morningside College women’s soccer team during the 2008 season.
Kukuk led the Mustangs with 11 goals to go along with five assists en route to a team-high 27 points. The five assists increased her career total to a Morningside-record 39 assists. Kukuk, who is also the Mustangs’ all-time leader with 18 career game winning goals, finished her career with 42 goals and 123 points for the third highest totals in Morningside history.
Kate Goss, a senior midfielder from Omaha, Neb., led the Mustangs with nine assists for the eighth highest single-season total in the Morningside record book. She also had seven goals to finish second on the Mustangs’ scoring chart with 23 points. Goss finished her career as the seventh leading scorer in Morningside history with 51 points. She ranks sixth in the Mustang annals with 17 career goals and eighth with 17 career assists.
Val Weber, a senior midfielder from Sioux Falls, S.D., finished her career among the Mustangs’ all-time scoring leaders. Weber, who tallied one goal and three assists for five points during the 2008 campaign, ranks seventh in Morningside history with 19 career assists and 10th with 29 career points.
Karlee Hauptman, a junior forward from Omaha, Neb., tallied five goals during the 2008 campaign to move into ninth place in Morningside history with 12 career goals.
Adriane Dougherty, a junior goal keeper from Lincoln, Neb., was the goal keeper of record in all but two of the Mustangs’ 20 contests. Dougherty posted an 8-9-1 record with 102 saves, two shutouts, and a goals against average of 2.17 goals per game. Dougherty has 7.8 shutouts during her career for the second highest total in Morningside history. She ranks fourth with 126 career saves and third with 13 career goal keeper victories.
Morningside posted a 9-10-1 record during the 2008 season. The Mustangs finished fifth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) standings with a 6-5-1 league mark and reached the semifinals of the GPAC Post-Season Tournament.

Maggie Kukuk, a senior forward from Sioux City, Iowa, received first-team All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) honors for the third time in her career when she was named to the first-team of the 2008 All-GPAC Women’s Soccer Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Kukuk is the Mustangs’ leading scorer this season with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points and is the team’s co-leader with two game-winning goals. She tallied three goals on Tuesday night to rally the Mustangs from a 2-0 halftime deficit in their 4-3 victory against Doane College in the quarterfinals of the GPAC’s post-season tournament.
Kukuk is Morningside’s all-time leader with 39 career assists and 18 career game-winning goals. She is the Mustangs’ third leading all-time scorer with 121 career points and ranks fourth in the Mustangs’ annals with 41 career goals.
In addition to Kukuk, the Mustangs’ Lindsay Neste, a senior midfielder from Bremerton, Wash., was named to the All-GPAC second-team. Neste has scored one goal for two points this season.
Neste earned All-GPAC honorable mention honors last season.
Morningside’s Kate Goss, Emily Petermann, and Val Weber were all named to the All-GPAC honorable mention list.
Goss, a senior midfielder from Omaha, Neb., is the Mustangs’ second leading scorer with seven goals and a team-high nine assists for 23 points. Goss is the Mustangs’ co-leader with two game-winning goals after she scored with five minutes left to lift the Mustangs to a 4-3 victory against Doane in Tuesday’s GPAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Goss, who earned first-team All-GPAC honors last year, is the seventh leading scorer in Morningside history with 51 career points. She is sixth in the Mustangs’ annals with 17 career goals and eighth with 17 career assists.
Petermann, a senior defender from Sioux Falls, S.D., is a defensive standout for a Morningside team that has limited its opposition to averages of 11.6 shots and 2.17 goals per game. She has also scored a goal and two points for the Mustangs’ offensive attack.
Weber, a senior midfielder from Sioux Falls, has scored one goal and three assists for five points. She also received honorable mention All-GPAC honors last year.
Weber ranks seventh in Morningside history with 19 career assists and is the ninth leading scorer in Morningside history with 29 career points.
