Three Mustangs Receive Scholar-Athlete Distinction

Three Morningside women's soccer players s have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.


Morningside’s women’s soccer Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes are:


Alexandra Lohry, a junior defender from Dakota Dunes, S.D. Lohry has a 3.89 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with majors in business administration and biology.

Kristin Shaw, a sophomore midfielder from Creston, Iowa. Shaw has a 3.74 cumulative GPA with majors in political science and biology.

Kathryn Sorenson, a junior forward from Sioux Falls, S.D. Sorenson has a 3.70 cumulative GPA with a major in biology.

Student-athletes must be of at least junior academic status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to be eligible for Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Bull And Sorenson Named To All-GPAC Honorable Mention List

Abby Bull, a senior defender from Elkhorn, Neb.; and Kathryn Sorenson, a junior defender from Sioux Falls, S.D., were each named to the honorable mention list of the 2010 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Team as selected by the league’s head coaches.


The two defensive standouts helped the Mustangs limit their opposition to averages of 2.13 goals and 13.9 shots per game.


Bull scored two goals and four points for the Mustangs this season. She scored the game-winning goal in the Mustangs’ 2-1 overtime victory against Jamestown College on Oct.8.


Bull finished her career as the 10th leading scorer in Morningside history with 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 career points. Her 11 career goals and 11 career assists also rank 10th in the Mustangs’ record book.


Morningside had a 4-12-1 record, including a 1-10 mark in the GPAC, during the 2010 season.

Hatting Is Mustangs' Top Scorer In 2010 Season

Taylor Hatting, a freshman midfielder from Sioux City, was Morningside College’s leading scorer during the 2010 women’s soccer season.


Hatting tallied two goals and two assists for six points.
Breanna Turner, a freshman midfielder from Aurora, Colo.; Abby Bull, a senior defender from Elkhorn, Neb.; and Kailey Stoupa, a freshman forward from Fremont, Neb., also scored two goals to share the team leadership with Hatting.


Jamie Swotek, a sophomore forward from Council Bluffs, Iowa, dealt two assists to share the team leadership in that category with Hatting.


Bull finished her career as the 10th leading scorer in Morningside history with 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 career points. Her 11 career goals and 11 career assists also rank 10th in the Mustangs’ record book.

Felicia Reimann, a freshman from Rapid City, S.D., led the Mustangs’ goal keepers with 68 saves and a goals against average of 1.93 goals per game. Her 1.93 goals against average was the fifth best single-season mark in Morningside history and her 68 saves ranked 10th among the Mustangs’ all-time single-season bests. She ranks sixth in Morningside history with her 68 career saves.

Alyssa Reed, a freshman goal keeper from Parker, Colo., had 44 saves and a goals against average of 2.31 goals per game for the seventh best single-season goals against average in the Mustangs’ record book. She ranks eighth in Morningside history with her 44 career saves.

Morningside posted a 4-12-1 record, including a 1-10 mark in the GPAC, during the 2010 season.

 

Reed Named GPAC Defensive Player Of The Week

Alyssa Reed, a freshman goal keeper from Parker, Colo., is this week’s Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.


Reed came up with eight saves, including five in the second half, to help lead the Mustangs to a 1-0 victory against College of Saint Mary last Sunday in Sioux City.

Reed kept the Flames off the scoreboard in a contest where Saint Mary outshot the Mustangs by a 14-9 margin.

 

 

 

 

 

Mustangs 8th In GPAC Pre-Season Poll

Morningside was picked for an eighth place finish in the 2010 GPAC Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Pre-Season Poll.

The Mustangs posted a 3-14-1 record and finished 11th in the GPAC with a 2-9-1 league mark last season.

Morningside will open the 2010 season with a 1 p.m. contest against William Jewell College on Sunday, Aug. 29, in Liberty, Mo.
