Niles, a sophomore defender from Sioux City, has been named
to the honorable mention list of the 2004 NAIA All-America
Women’s Soccer Team.
Niles is the first player in the history of Morningside’s
women’s soccer program to receive All-America recognition.
She was the defensive standout for a Morningside team that
limited its opposition to a scoring average of 2.54 goals
per game. Niles also contributed seven points to the Mustangs’
offensive attack with three goals and one assist.
She earned first-team All-Great Plains Athletic Conference
(GPAC) and first-team NAIA All-Region IV honors earlier this
year.
Niles was a forward during her freshman campaign and topped
the Mustangs’ scoring chart with 18 goals and nine assists
for 45 points.

Lenz
Tops Mustangs In Scoring During 2004 Season
Marisha Lenz,
a freshman forward from Lincoln, Neb., was the leading scorer
for the Morningside College women’s soccer team during
the 2004 season.
Lenz tallied 12 goals and four assists for 28 points to top
the Mustangs in all three categories. She provided the game-winning
goal in four of the Mustangs’ six victories. Her four
game-winning goals was the second highest single-season total
in Morningside history, while her 12 goals ranked sixth and
her 28 points seventh in the Mustangs’ annals.
The Mustangs’ top goal keeper was Kelly Berst,
a sophomore from Lincoln, Neb., who had a 4-9-2 record with
109 saves, two shutouts, and a goals against average of 3.11
goals per game. Berst’s 109 saves was the third highest
single-season total in Morningside history.
Morningside posted a 6-10-3 record and finished ninth in the
final Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) standings with
a 4-6-1 league record.

Emily
Evans, a junior defender from Glenwood, Iowa, has been named
a Daktronics NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete in women's soccer.
Evans has a 3.70 cumulative GPA with a major in art teaching.
She tallied one assist this season and helped the Mustangs
limit their opposition to a scoring average of 2.54 goals
per game.
Daktronics NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes must have junior
or senior academic standing and maintain a cumulative GPA
of 3.50.
Morningside posted a 6-10-3 record during the 2004 women's

Brooke Niles, a

second-team of the 2004 College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII College Division
Women’s Soccer Team.
Niles has a 3.92 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with
a major in biology.
Niles was the defensive standout this season for a Morningside
team that held its opponents to a scoring average of 2.54
goals per game. Niles contributed seven points to the Mustangs’
offensive attack with three goals and one assist. Niles, a
two-time first-team All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC)
performer, played forward as a freshman and led the Mustangs
in scoring with 18 goals and nine assists for 45 points.

Conference (GPAC) women’s soccer team as selected by
the league’s head coaches.
Niles was the defensive standout for a Morningside team that
held its opponents to a scoring average of 2.54 goals per
game. Niles contributed seven points to the Mustangs’
offensive attack with three goals and one assist.
She earned second-team All-GPAC laurels as a forward last
season when she led the Mustangs in scoring with 18 goals
and nine assists for 45 points.
Marisha Lenz, a freshman forward from Lincoln, Neb.,
was named to the All-GPAC second-team. Lenz was the Mustangs’
leading scorer with 12 goals and four assists for 28 points.
Lenz accounted for 12 of the Mustangs’ 25 goals and
supplied the game-winner in four of the Mustangs’ six
victories.
Kelly Berst, a sophomore goal keeper from Lincoln;
Maureen Vandenbroucke, a freshman defender from Gretna,
Neb., and Colleen Zuerlein, a junior midfielder from
Lincoln, all received All-GPAC honorable mention honors. Zuerlein
also received honorable mention recognition last year.
Berst had a 4-9-2 record, 109 saves, and a goals against average
of 3.11 goals per game. Vandenbroucke scored two goals and
one assist for five points, while Zuerlein had one goal and
three assists for five points.
Morningside posted a 6-10-3 record during the 2004 season
and finished ninth in the GPAC standings with a 4-6-1 league
mark.

Ashley
Hugel, a sophomore forward from Cary, Ill., and Kelly Berst,
a sophomore goal keeper from Lincoln, Neb., have been named
the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference
(GPAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players
of the Week.
Hugel
scored two goals and dealt an assist in the Mustangs’
two victories last week. She scored both of the Mustangs’
goals in their 2-1 victory against Dordt College on Oct. 13,
then assisted on one of their goals in a 2-1 triumph against
Doane College on Oct. 16.
She moved into second place on the Mustangs’ scoring
list with three goals and one assist for seven points.
Berst allowed only two goals in the Mustangs’ victories
to lower her season’s goals against average to 3.11
goals per game. She had seven saves in the win against Dordt
and nine saves in the win against Doane.
Morningside will take a 5-9-2 record into a game against the
University of Sioux Falls on Tuesday at Sioux Falls, S.D.
