Tighe Finishes 35th At National Tourney

Photo of Kristi TigheKristi Tighe, a junior from Homer, Neb., fired a six-over par 78 in Friday's final round of the 2007 NAIA Women’s Golf Championships at Lake San Marcos Country Club in San Diego, Calif.

Her solid final round, just one stroke over her season's top score of 77, put her in a tie for 35th place in the final individual standings in a 120-player field. She finished with a four-day total of 323.

Tighe matched her low score of the season with a 77 in the first round, followed by a pair of 84s in rounds two and three.


Tighe qualified for the national tournament as the NAIA Region III runner-up medalist.

Parrish A NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete

Photo of Megan ParrishMegan Parrish, a junior from Spencer, Iowa, has been named a 2007 Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete in women’s golf.


Parrish has a cumulative grade point average of 3.58 with a major in music.


She had a 98.8-stroke scoring average during the fall season.


Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Golf All-America Scholar-Athletes must be of at least junior status and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Tighe Is Runner-Up Medalist At Region III Championships

NAIA Region III Kristi Tighe was the runner-up medalist when the Mustangs competed in the NAIA Region III Women's Golf Championships at Oxbow Country Club on Monday and Tuesday at Oxbow, N.D.

Tighe, who was eighth in the individual standings following an opening round 87, came back with a 79 on Tuesday to finish with a 166, five strokes behind medalist Kelli Baseley of Dakota Wesleyan University.

Tighe's efforts led the Mustangs to a fifth place finish in the team standings with a 760. Jenny Bowen had the Mustangs' second best score with rounds of 93 and 92 for a 185.

Tighe Is GPAC Golfer Of The Week

Kristi Tighe, a junior from Homer, Neb., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golfer of the Week for April 16-22.


Tighe was the individual medalist with a five-over par 77 at the Northwestern College Invitational held April 20 at Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City, Iowa.


She finished with a seven-stroke cushion over runner-up medalist Heather Snavely of Dakota Wesleyan University, who carded an 84.


Morningside will compete in the NAIA Region III Championships on April 30 and May 1 at Oxbow Country Club in Fargo, N.D.

 

Bowen And Tighe Named To All-GPAC Team

Jenny Bowen, a freshman from Aurelia, Iowa, and Kristi Tighe, a junior from Homer, Neb., were each named to the 2006 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golf Team.


Bowen was the individual runner-up at the 2006 GPAC Championships held Oct. 12 and 13 at River Wilds Golf Course in Blair, Neb. Bowen carded an 84 both days to finish with a 168 to finish just two strikes out of individual medalist honors. Bowen ranked second on the Mustangs this fall with an 18-hole scoring average of 86.9. Her best score of the season was an 83 at the Nebraska Wesleyan University Invitational on Oct. 1.


Tighe had the Mustangs’ top scoring average this season with an average of 82.9. She was the individual medalist with a 79 at the Northwestern Invitational on Sept. 1. Tighe also carded a in the second round of the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational on Oct. 2 to match her top score of the season. Tighe finished fifth in the individual standings at the GPAC Championships with scores of 88 and 85 for a 173.


Morningside finished second in the team standings at the GPAC Championships to qualify for this spring’s 2007 NAIA Region III Championships.

Mustangs Finish 2nd At GPAC Championships

Morningside finished second at the 2006 GPAC Women’s Golf Championships held Thursday and Friday at River Wilds Golf Club in Blair, Neb.

The Mustangs, who were also in second place after Thursday’s opening round, finished with a two-day total of 723 to nudge Hastings College by one stroke for runner-up honors.

Dakota Wesleyan University won the title with a 701 to win the GPAC crown for the fifth year in a row.

The top five teams and top 10 individuals all advance to next spring’s NAIA Region III Championships. The date and site for the region tournament has not been determined.

Jenny Bowen carded rounds of 84 both days to finish with a 168 for runner-up medalist honors. She finished two strokes behind Midland Lutheran’s Lori Wurdeman for the top individual score.

Kristi Tighe, the Mustangs’ regular season scoring leader, also had a top 10 finish for the Mustangs. She carded rounds of 88 and 85 for a 173 to finish fifth.

Mustang senior Rachel Lenhardt rebounded from an opening round 100 with an 89 on Friday to finish at 189. Shelby McKeever had a 196 and Megan Parrish a 199.
