Bree Evans and Kristi Tighe have been named 2008 Daktronics/NAIA Scholar-Athletes in the sport of women’s golf. Tighe was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII College Division Women’s At-Large first-team.
Evans, a junior from Crofton, Neb., has a 3.76 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and is majoring in business administration with an emphasis in marketing.
Tighe, a senior from Homer, Neb., has a 3.94 cumulative GPA and is majoring in nursing.
Tighe averaged 82.3 strokes per 18 holes during the 2007 fall and 2008 spring seasons to tie a Morningside scoring average she previously set as a junior. She was the individual runner-up at the 2007 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships and finished seventh in the individual standings at the 2008 NAIA Region III Tournament.
Student-athletes must be of at least junior status and have a minimum GPA of 3.50 in order to be eligible for Daktronics/NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors and be of at least sophomore status with a minimum GPA of 3.20 in order to be eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic honors.

Kristi Tighe finished seventh in the inndividual standings at the two-day NAIA Region III Women’s Golf Championships held Monday and Tuesday at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Tighe carded an opening round 82 to put her one stroke off the pace of eventual medalist Amber Raisanen of Dakota Wesleyan University. Tighe had an 87 on Tuesday to finish with a 169. She finished just two strokes out of fourth place.

Tighe had the Mustangs’ top scoring average during the fall season with a scoring average of 81.5 strokes per 18 holes. She was the individual runner-up medalist at this fall’s GPAC Women’s Golf Championships with a two-day total of 159 to qualify for the NAIA Region III Championships in the spring.
Tighe was the individual medalist at the two-day Briar Cliff/Lila Frommelt Classic with a 158.
She was a NAIA National Tournament qualifier last year after she was the individual runner-up at the NAIA Region III Championships. Tighe set a Morningside single-season record for scoring average last year with a combined average of 82.3 over the fall and spring seasons.

Kristi Tighe was the individual runner-up medalist at the GPAC Women's Golf Championships held Thursday and Friday at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb.
Tighe, a NAIA National Tournament qualifier last year, will advance to next spring's NAIA Region III Championships for her runner-up effort. She carded scores of 78 on Thursday and 81 on Friday to finish with a two-day total of 159. She finished eight strokes behind individual medalist Brittany Hofer of the University of Sioux Falls.
Morningside finished ninth in the team standings with a team score of 766.

Kristi Tighe, a senior from Homer, Neb., is the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Co-Women’s Golfer of the Week along with Brittany Hofer of the University of Sioux Falls.
Both players were co-medalists at the Briar Cliff University/Lila Frommelt Classic played last Thursday and Friday at Green Valley Golf Course with two-day totals of 158. Tighe had an eagle during Thursday’s opening round action.
Jenny Bowen, a sophomore from Aurelia Iowa, has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Golfer of the Week after her performance at last Friday’s Northwestern College Invitational.
Bowen carded a five-over par 77 at Landsmeer Country Club in Orange City, Iowa, to claim individual medalist honors by a two-stroke margin.
The Mustangs will compete in the Doane College GPAC Preview tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Lincoln, Neb.
