Lindsie
Honsbruch, a 5-9 senior outside hitter from Danbury, Iowa,
was named the Most Valuable Player of the Morningside College
volleyball team at the Mustangs’ 2004 awards banquet
held Sunday, Dec. 5.
Honsbruch averaged 3.01 kills and 3.56 digs per game this
past season to rank first on the team in kills per game and
second in digs per game. She also topped the Mustangs with
61 ace serves for the fifth highest single-season total in
Morningside history. Her average of 0.48 ace serves per game
was also the fifth highest in school history.
She finished her career as the Mustangs’ all-time leader
with 1,638 career digs and a career average of 3.38 digs per
game. Honsbruch, who also ranks second in the Mustangs’
record book with 178 career ace serves and fifth with 1,252
career kills, is one of only five players in Morningside history
to amass over 1,000 career kills, 1,000 career digs, and 100
career ace serves.
Honsbruch also received the Mustangs’ Most Valuable
Defensive Player Award.
The Mustangs’ Most Valuable Offensive Player Award went
to Cassie Cheever, a 6-0 freshman middle blocker from
South Sioux City, Neb., who led the Mustangs with 391 kills
and was the team’s co-leader with an average of 3.01
kills per game. Cheever ranked second on the team with an
average of 0.71 blocks per game and third with 50 ace serves.
Other award winners were:
Most Consistent – Jennifer McNeill, a 5-11 senior
middle blocker from Vinton, Iowa.
Best Attitude – Kami Kloth, a 5-10 senior outside
hitter from Wisner, Neb.
Hardest Worker – Kloth and Megan Tuttle, a 5-8
freshman defensive specialist from Sioux City.
Junior Varsity Most Valuable Player – Leslie
Bremer, a 6-0 freshman middle blocker from Truman, Minn.,
and Katie Kotlik, a 5-8 freshman setter from Bellevue, Neb.
Morningside posted a 23-13 record during the 2004 season to
give the Mustangs a third consecutive 20-win season for the
first time in school history.

Morningside College’s
volleyball team posted a 23-13 record during the 2004 season.
The Mustangs, who finished 26-9 in 2002 and 24-17 in 2003,
posted a third consecutive 20-win season for the first time
in school history.
Mustangs Break Single-Season Ace
Serve Records
Morningside had 308 ace serves during the 2004 season to break
the former record of 300 ace serves in a season the Mustangs
set last season. The Mustangs averaged a school-record 2.33
ace serves per game to break their former record of 2.27 ace
serves per game in 1994.
Mustangs Break Two Single-Match Records
Morningside had 19 ace serves in a 3-0 victory against Faith
Baptist College on Sept. 11 to set a new school record for
a three-game match. The previous record was 16 ace serves
against Mayville State University during the 1997 season.
The Mustangs set a team assist record for a four-game match
with 83 in a 3-1 win against Mount Marty College on Oct. 16
to break the former record of 81 assists against the University
of Northern Colorado in 2000.
Honsbruch Becomes All-Time Dig Leader
Lindsie Honsbruch, a 5-9 senior outside hitter from Danbury,
Iowa, had 456 digs this season to become Morningside’s
all-time leader with 1,638 career digs. She broke the former
Morningside record of 1,563 career digs by Theresa Kathman-Trees
from 1993-96. Honsbruch broke another record with a career
average of 3.38 digs per game to top Kathman-Trees’
former record of 3.14 digs per game.
Honsbruch is one of only five players in Morningside history
to amass over 1,000 career kills, 1,000 career digs, and 100
career ace serves. She ranks second in Morningside history
with 178 career ace serves and fifth with 1,252 career kills.
She also ranks second in the Mustangs’ annals with a
career average of 0.37 ace serves per game.
She led the Mustangs with 61 ace serves this season for the
fifth highest single-season total in Morningside history.
Her average of 0.48 ace serves per game was also the fifth
highest in school history. Honsbruch was the Mustangs’
co-leader with an average of 3.01 kills per game.
Martin Leads Team In Assists
Miranda Martin, a 5-8 freshman setter from Casper, Wyo., dealt
1,423 assists for the eighth highest single-season total in
Morningside history. She averaged 11.20 assists per game for
the seventh highest mark in school history. She already ranks
sixth in Morningside history with her 1,423 career assists.
Cheever Tops Team In Kills
Cassie Cheever, a 6-0 freshman middle blocker from South Sioux
City, Neb., led the Mustangs with 391 kills during the 2004
season for an average of 3.01 kills per game.
Rohlena Leads Team In Digs
B.J. Rohlena, a 5-8 sophomore libero from Sioux City, led
the Mustangs with 494 digs and with an average of 3.90 digs
per game. Her total digs and digs per game average were the
highest by a Morningside libero since the position was added
to the game three years ago.
Rohlena had the Mustangs’ top single-match dig performance
of the season with 32 in a 3-2 win against Midland Lutheran
College on Sept. 14.
Boeve Slams 26 Kills Against Mount
Marty
Kate Boeve, a 5-9 junior outside hitter from Doon, Iowa, had
the Mustangs’ top single-match kill performance of the
season when she slammed 26 kills in a 3-1 victory against
Mount Marty College on Oct. 16.
McNeill Leads Mustangs In Attack
Percentage
Jennifer McNeill, a 5-11 senior middle blocker from Vinton,
Iowa, led the Mustangs with a .324 attack percentage and an
average of 0.80 blocks per game.
McNeill finished her two-year career with a .308 attack percentage
for the third highest career figure in Morningside history.
She also ranks sixth in the Mustangs’ annals with a
career average of 0.80 blocks per game.

Kate Boeve,
a junior outside hitter from Doon, Iowa; Kami Kloth,
a senior outside hitter from Wisner, Neb.; and Jennifer
McNeill, a senior middle blocker from Vinton, Iowa, have
been named Daktronics NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes in
the sport of volleyball.
Boeve has a 3.51 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with
a major in elementary education. She averaged 2.53 kills and
0.95 digs per game this past season.
Kloth has a 3.63 cumulative GPA with a major in photography.
She averaged 2.30 digs and 1.13 kills per game and had 30
ace serves.
McNeill has a 3.51 cumulative GPA with a major in elementary
education. She led the Mustangs with an average of 0.80 blocks
per game to go along with an average of 2.57 kills per game
and 38 ace serves.
Daktronics NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes must have junior
or senior academic standing and maintain a cumulative GPA
of 3.50.
Morningside finished 23-13 during the 2004 season for a school-record
third consecutive 20-win season.

Cassie Cheever,
a 6-0 sophomore middle blocker from South Sioux City, Neb.;
and Lindsie Honsbruch, a 5-9 senior outside hitter
from Danbury, Iowa, have been named to the second team of
the 2004 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) volleyball
team as selected by the league’s head coaches.
Cheever led the Mustangs with 391 kills for an average of
3.01 per game. Cheever was the team leader with 19 double
figure kill performances. She also topped the team with 25
solo blocks and ranked second with 67 assisted blocks and
an average of 0.71 blocks per game. Cheever had 76 digs for
an average of 0.58 per game and ranked third on the team with
50 ace serves.
Honsbruch pounded 385 kills and also averaged 3.01 kills per
game to share the team leadership with Cheever. Honsbruch,
the Mustangs’ season’s leader with 14 double-doubles,
ranked second on the team with 456 digs for an average of
3.56 per game and led the team with 61 ace serves. Her 61
ace serves was the fifth highest single-season total in Morningside
history, while her 456 digs was the sixth highest single-season
total in the Morningside record book.
Honsbruch, a four-year starter, finished her Morningside career
with a school-record 1,638 career digs. Honsbruch, one of
only five players in Morningside history to amass over 1,000
career kills, 1,000 career digs, and 100 career ace serves,
ranked second in Morningside history with 178 career ace serves
and fifth with 1,252 career kills. She averaged 2.58 kills
and 3.38 digs per game during her Morningside career.
In addition to their two second-team selections, the Mustangs’
Miranda Martin was named to the All-GPAC honorable
mention list. Martin, a 5-8 freshman setter from Casper, Wyo.,
dealt 1,423 assists for an average of 11.20 assists per game.
Her 1,423 assists was the eighth highest single-season total
in Morningside history, while her average of 11.20 assists
per game is the school’s seventh best single-season
mark. Martin also had 215 digs for an average of 1.69 per
game, 113 kills for an average of 0.80 per game, and 38 ace
serves.
Morningside posted a 23-13 record during the 2004 season for
a school-record third consecutive 20-win season. The Mustangs
finished in a tie for fifth place in the final GPAC standings
with an 8-8 league record.
