Jeremiah Danga, a junior from Des Moines, Iowa, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Morningside men’s cross country team for the third year in a row.
Danga ran the fastest cross country time in Morningside history with a time of 25:11 at this season’s NAIA Region III Championships to qualify for the NAIA national meet. He finished fifth at the NAIA Region III Championships and eighth at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships.
The Morningside women’s cross country team named Co-MVPs in Val Crutchley, a sophomore from Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Erin Keitges, a freshman from Allen, Neb. Crutchley placed 13th in the individual standings at the GPAC Championships, while Keitges finished 11th at the GPAC Championships and earned a berth in the NAIA national meet field with a 10th place finish at the NAIA Region III Championships.
The Mustangs Most Improved awards went to Whitney Gries, a freshman from Onawa, Iowa, and Yuichi Ichinose, a freshman from Tokyo, Japan.
Summer Mileage awards went to Emily Grabow, a junior from Ft. Calhoun, Neb., and Danga.

Jeremiah Danga, a junior from Des Moines, Iowa; and Erin Keitges, a freshman from Allen, Neb., both ran at Saturday’s 2006 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships at Louisville, Ky.
Danga finished 72nd in the men’s 8K run with a time of 26:13.95, while Keitges finished 148th in the women’s 5K race with a time of 19:55.15.
They were the first two Morningside athletes to ever compete at the NAIA Cross Country Championships.
Annie McInnis, a junior from Omaha, Neb., has been named a 2006 Daktronics NAIA Cross Country All-America Scholar-Athlete.
McInnis has a cumulative 3.50 grade point average (GPA) and is majoring in elementary education.
She is a three-year letterwinner for the Mustangs’ cross country team and is also a two-year letterwinner in track & field.
Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes must be of junior or senior status and have cumulative GPAs of 3.50 or higher.

Jeremiah Danga finished fifth in the men’s individual standings for the Mustangs’ top performance at Saturday’s NAIA Region III Cross Country Championships at Sioux Falls, S.D.
Danga ran the 8K course in 25:11.79 to finish less than two seconds out of fourth place. His performance earned him a berth in the 2006 NAIA Cross Country Championships to be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at Louisville, Ky.
Danga’s efforts led Morningside to a sixth place finish in the 17-team men’s field.
Morningside also finished sixth in the team-standings in the 14-team women’s field.
The Morningside women were led by Erin Keitges, who finished 10th with a time of 18:50.07. Her performance also earned her a spot in the national meet field.
Danga and Keitges each ran the fastest times in Morningside cross country history at Saturday's Region III Championships.

Morningside's women's cross country team made its best showing ever at the GPAC Championships with a fourth place finish in Saturday's conference meet at Blair, Neb.
The Mustangs had 117 points en route to their fourth place finish. Morningside finished sixth in the men's competition with 168 points.
Erin Keitges led the Mustang women with a time of 19:48.84 over the 5K course to finish 11th in the individual standings. Val Crutchley also made the top 15 with the 13th place time of 19:51.43.
Jeremiah Danga had the Mustangs' best overall individual performance. He had a time of 26:54.98 in the men's 8K race to finish eighth in the individual standings.
Danga, Keitges, and Crutchley are earned All-GPAC honors for their performances. The top 15 runners in each race were awarded All-GPAC status.
The Mustangs will compete in the NAIA Region III Championships on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Sioux Falls, S.D.

Danga placed second in the individual standings at last Saturday’s Briar Cliff Invitational with a time of 26:46.12 to lead the Mustangs to the team championship.
Morningside will compete in the Mount Marty College Invitational this Saturday at Yankton, S.D.

Morningside won both the men's and women's team championships at the Briar Cliff Invitational cross country meet held Saturday at Adams Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, S.D.
The Mustangs edged NCAA Division II Wayne State College by one point to win the women's title and had a 10-point margin to top Wayne State in the men's division.
Jeremiah Danga had Morningside's top individual finish. He ran the 8k men's course in 26:46.12 to finish second in the men's individual standings. A.J. Pruss and Kasey Hoffman also made the top 10 with times of 27:34.51 and 27:40.50 for seventh and ninth place, respectively.
Val Crutchely led the Morningside women with a third place time of 19:15.55 over the women's 5k course. Erin Keitges was fourth with a time of 19:19.11 and Emily Grabow was sixth with a 19:47.43.
The Mustangs will compete in the Mount Marty Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Yankton, S.D.
