McInnis Is GPAC Women's Cross Country Runner Of The Week

Jeramiah Danga and Sara Slater were named the Most Valuable Players for the Morningside College men’s and women’s cross country teams for the 2005 season.
Danga, who helped lead Des Moines Roosevelt to a Iowa Class 4A state championship in 2003, earned the Mustangs’ MVP award for the second straight season. He had a season’s best time of 26:21 at the NAIA Region III Championships held Nov. 5 at Sioux Falls, S.D., where he placed 21st in a field of 143 runners.
Slater was the top finisher for the Mustang women when they competed in the Nov. 5 NAIA Region III Championships when she finished 41st in a field of 149 runners. She had a season’s best time of 19:41 at the Briar Cliff Invitational on Oct. 8. Slater placed eighth in the Iowa Class 3A state meet as a prep senior at Denison-Schleswig High School.
Most Improved awards were presented to Emily Grabow, Jennifer Gould, Chris Nordstrom, and Kasey Hoffman.
The Mustangs’ Summer Mileage awards went to Danga and Annie McInnis.
Annie McInnis, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb., has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
McInnis was the individual runner-up with a time of 15:58 when she led the Mustangs to the team championship at the Dordt College Earlybird Invitational held Sept. 2 at Sioux Center, Iowa.
Morningside finished with 31 points for a 17-point margin over runner-up Dordt College.
The Mustangs’ next meet is the Turkey Days Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Worthington, Minn.
