Three Mustangs Are NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes

Mustangs Break Many School Records At NAIA Championships

 

Hagerty Named To Academic All-District Team

Photo of Nichole HagertyNichole Hagerty, a junior from Spearfish, S.D., and a member of the Mustangs’ women’s swimming team, has been named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District VII Women’s At-Large Team as selected by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).


Hagerty has a 3.79 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at Morningside and is majoring in biology.


Hagerty placed seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke at this year’s NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships.


She is Morningside’s record holder with times of 1:10.34 in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke and 2:30.00 in the 200-yard breaststroke.


Student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher and be of at least sophomore academic standing to be eligible for academic all-district and All-America honors.

Mustangs Have Three NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes

Morningside College’s Nichole Hagerty, Kellie Harris, and Holly Martin have been named 2007 Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Swimming & Diving All-America Scholar-Athletes.


Hagerty, a junior from Spearfish, S.D., has a 3.79 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in biology. She is Morningside’s record holder with times of 1:10.34 in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke and 2:30.00 in the 200-yard breaststroke.


Harris, a junior from Omaha, Neb., has a 3.55 cumulative GPA and is majoring in elementary education.

She is the Mustangs’ record holder with times of 11:33.66 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 18:47.06 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.


Martin, a senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has a 3.50 GPA with majors in biology and chemistry.
Martin is a four-year letterwinner for the Mustangs.


Daktronics-NAIA Women’s Swimming All-America Scholar-Athletes must be of at least junior status and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Mustangs Continue To Break Records At NAIA Championships

Nichole Hagerty, a junior from Spearfish, S.D., had Morningside College’s top individual finish during Saturday’s final day of action at the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships at San Antonio, Texas.


Hagerty placed seventh with a time of 2:32.22 in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke final. She broke her own school record during Saturday’s prelims with a time of 2:30.00 to top her former Mustang standard of 2:31.38 she had at last year’s national meet.


Scott Anderson, a sophomore from Ottumwa, Iowa, had the top individual finish for the Morningside men with an eighth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.21.


Morningside placed eighth in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay with a school-record time of 3:20.25 behind the quartet of Matt Kerr, a freshman from Sigourney, Iowa; Joe Disalvo, a junior from Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kevin Alejo, a junior from Sugar Land, Texas; and Anderson. They broke the former Morningside record of 3:20.47 set at last year’s national meet.


Kellie Harris, a sophomore from Omaha, Neb., shattered her own school record en route to a ninth place finish in the women’s 1,650-yard freestyle. Harris had a time of 18:47.07 to take almost 15 seconds off her previous Morningside standard of 19:01.65 from last year’s national meet.


Morningside placed 10th in the women’s 800-meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:52.77 from the quartet of Jean Matzen, a freshman from Fairfield, Iowa; Rachel Shoup, a senior from Houston, Texas; Maggie Meier, a sophomore from Omaha; and Harris.


Michael Bryant, a freshman from Farragut, Tenn., made the finals in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke and finished 12th with a time of 2:28.16.
