Mustangs Have Several Top Finishes At NAIA Nationals
Nichole Hagerty, a junior from Spearfish, S.D., has been named a 2006 Daktronics NAIA Women’s Swimming & Diving All-America Scholar-Athlete.
Hagerty has a 3.90 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in biology. She is the first athlete in the history of Morningside’s swimming program to receive NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors.
She finished 10th in the 200-meter breaststroke with a school-record time of 2:31.38 at this past weekend’s NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships at St. Peters, Mo. Hagerty is also Morningside’s record holder in the 100-yard breaststroke and is part of school- record holding relay teams in the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays.
Daktronics NAIA Swimming & Diving All-America Scholar-Athletes must be of at least junior status, have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and have met the NAIA national meet qualifying standard in at least one event.

Casey McNare had a pair of top 10 finishes during Saturday’s final day of competition at the 2006 NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships at St. Peters, Mo.
McNare finished ninth in the men’s 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:59.68 and finished 10th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:17.41. McNare set a school-record in the 200-yard butterfly prelims with a time of 1:59.11 to break his former record of 1:59.55.
The Mustangs also had a top 10 finish from Scott Anderson, who placed seventh in the men’s 200-yard backstroke with a school-record time of 1:58.16 to shatter his former record of 2:00.77.
Morningside added an eighth place finish in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of Joe Disalvo, Troy Gaeth, McNare, and Kevin Alejo, who combined for a school-record time of 3:20.47 to shatter the former school mark of 3:31.90.
Disavlo swam a school-record time of 48.44 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle prelims to break his former Mustang standard of 49.40.
Morningside’s top performance in the women’s competition came from Nichole Hagerty, who placed 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 2:31.38 to break her own record of 2:33.68.
Kellie Harris finished 12th in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 19:01.65 to break the former Morningside record of 19:23.65 by Cori White in 2004.
Anderson placed eighth in the men’s 100-yard backstroke with a school-record time of 55.25 seconds during Friday’s competition.
Anderson broke his former Morningside record time of 55.90.
Anderson also swam for two Morningside relay teams that clocked school-record times on Friday.
He swam the leadoff leg for the Mustangs’ 400-yard medley relay team that finished seventh with a time of 3:39.02. The other members of the team were Kyle Heflin, Casey McNare, and Joe Disalvo. They shattered the former Morningside record time of 3:53.19 set in 2004.
Disalvo, Troy Gaeth, Anderson, and Kevin Alejo combined for a ninth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a school-record time of 1:31.96 to smash the former record of 1:34.63.
Morningside had a ninth place finish in the women’s 400-yard medley relay, where the quartet of Rachel Shoup, Nichole Hagerty, Whitney Turner, and Jena Scurry combined for a school-record time of 4:21.74 to break the former record of 4:24.02.

Morningside had a sixth place finish in the men’s 200-yard medley relay for its top finish during Thursday’s competition at the 2006 NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships at St. Peters, Mo.
The Mustangs’ quartet of Scott Anderson, Kyle Heflin, Casey McNare, and Joe Disalvo placed sixth with a school-record time of 1:41.31 in the finals to break the previous Morningside record of 1:41.54 set earlier this season.
Morningside added an eighth place finish in the men’s 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:30.27 from the quartet of McNare, Anderson, Troy Gaeth, and Kevin Alejo.
Morningside’s top finish in the women’s competition came in the 800-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of Whitney Turner, Kellie Harris, Rachel Shoup, and Jena Scurry finished ninth with a time of 8:26.16.
Turner had the Mustangs’ top individual finish with time of 5:27.95 for 12th place in the women’s 500-yard freestyle.
Disalvo finished 16th in the men’s 50-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 22.20 seconds to top his former Morningside standard of 22.32.
