Finish 12th In Two Relays On Second Day Of NAIA Nationals
Morningside placed
12th in the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay during
Saturday’s final day of competition at the NAIA Swimming
& Diving Championships at the St. Peters Rec-Plex at St.
Peters, Mo.
The relay quartet of Molly Musselman, a sophomore from
Sioux City; Jena Scurry, a freshman from Richfield,
Minn.; Cori White, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, S.D.;
and Jennifer Wollitz, a freshman from Cedar Rapids,
Iowa, combined for a time of 3:56.39.
The Mustangs had three swimmers compete in the women’s
1,650-yard freestyle. Rachel Shoup, a sophomore from
Houston, Texas, made the best showing with a 15th place time
of 20:00.64. White finished 16th with a time of 20:01.31
and Musselman was 19th with a time of 20:04.06.
Derek Raquel, a freshman from Galt, Calif., and Nichole
Hagerty, a freshman from Spearfish, S.D., also competed
Saturday’s individual events, but failed to advance
beyond the prelims.
Raquel was 15th in the men’s 200-yard butterfly with
a time of 2:04.94, while Hagerty was 16th in the women’s
200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.44.

Raquel, a freshman from Galt, Calif., placed
eighth in the men’s 400-yard individual medley
during Friday’s finals at the NAIA Swimming & Diving
Championships at the St. Peters Rec-Plex at St. Peters, Mo.
Raquel swam his fastest time of the season with a 4:20.02
after he had finished 12th in the prelims with a 4:25.29 earlier
in the day.
The Mustangs’ women’s 200-yard medley relay team
of Rachel Shoup, a sophomore from Houston, Texas; Nichole
Hagerty, a freshman from Spearfish, S.D.; Whitney Turner,
a freshman from Trumbull, Neb.; and Jennifer Wollitz,
a freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, finished 12th in Friday
night’s finals with a 2:03.09.
All of the Mustangs’ other competitors in Friday’s
individual events failed to advance beyond the prelims.
Turner was 17th in the women’s 400-yard individual
medley prelims with a time of 5:07.56 and 22nd in the women’s
200-yard freestyle prelims with a time of 2:08.72.
Hagerty was 19th in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke
prelims with a time of 1:13.18.
Kyle Heflin, a freshman from La Marque, Texas, was
19th in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke prelims with
a time of 1:04.28.
The NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships continues through
Saturday.

women’s 400-yard medley relay during Thursday’s
competition at the NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships
at the St. Peters Rec-Plex at St. Peters, Mo.
The Mustangs' 200-yard freestyle team of Molly Musselman,
a sophomore from Sioux City; Jena Scurry, a freshman
from Richfield, Minn.; Whitney Turner, a freshman from
Trumbull, Neb.; and Jennifer Wollitz, a freshman from
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, had a time of 1:47.868.
The 400-yard medley
relay team of Rachel Shoup, a sophomore from Houston,
Texas; Nichole Hagerty, a freshman from Spearfish,
S.D.; Turner, and Musselman combined for a time
of 4:33.59.
The Mustangs had four athletes compete in Thursday's individual
events, but all failed to advance beyond the prelims.
Derek Raquel, a freshman from Galt, Calif., had the
Mustangs’ top finish in the individual events with the
16th fastest time of 4:56.24 in the men’s 500-yard freestyle.
Joe Disalvo, a freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa,
had the 28th fastest time in the men’s 50-yard freestyle
with a time of 22.66 seconds.
In the women’s competition, Turner and Shoup
finished 18th and 22nd with times of 5:39.47 and 5:49.02,
respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.
The NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships continues through
Saturday.

finished 10th in the women’s 800-yard freestyle relay
on Wednesday during the opening day of competition at the
2005 NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships at the St. Peters
Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.
The Mustangs’ quartet of Molly Musselman, a sophomore
from Sioux City; Whitney Turner, a freshman from Trumbull,
Neb.; Rachel Shoup, a sophomore from Houston, Texas;
and Cori White, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, S.D.,
combined for a time of 8:32.44 to score six points for a 10th
place finish.
The NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships will continue
through Saturday.
