Morningside scored
points in five events during the final day of action at the
NAIA Swimming & Diving Championships in Lawrence, Kan.,
to finish in 11th place with 61 points in the final team standings.
The meet was held from Wednesday through Saturday, March 3-6.
The Mustangs received 10th place efforts in the individual
events from Cori White and Ally Stepp.
White finished 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a season’s
best time of 19:23.64, while Stepp was 10th in the 200-yard
backstroke with a time of 2:17.40.
Stepp added an 11th place time of 2:23.70 in the 200-yard
butterfly.
Amanda Thompson also had an 11th place finish with a time
of 55.95 seconds, her fastest of the season, in the 100-yard
freestyle.
Morningside added a 10th place finish in the 400-yard freestyle
relay, where Stepp, Molly Musselman, White and Thompson combined
for a time of 3:50.17.
Stepp placed fifth
in the women’s 400-yard individual medley for the Mustangs'
top effort during Friday's competition.
Stepp’s fifth place finish was the Mustangs’ best
finish during the meet. She swam a time of 4:55.15 in Friday’s
finals after clocking a 4:58.22 earlier in the day in the
prelims. Stepp also ranked fifth among the competitors during
the prelims.
Thompson also gave the Mustangs a place winning effort on
Friday with an eighth place time of 2:01.46 in the women’s
200-yard freestyle. Thompson qualified for the finals with
the seventh fastest time in the prelims with a 2:01.20, her
best effort of the season.
Stepp and Thompson also swam for the Mustangs’ 200-yard
medley relay team that finished 12th with a season’s
best time of 2:00.20. They were joined by White and Rachel
Shoup.
Morningside scored points in two relay events during Thursday's
competition.
The Mustangs finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay
with a time of 1:45.40 and 12th in the 400-yard medley relay
with a time of 4:25.65.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team was comprised of Stepp,
Molly Musselman, White, and Thompson. The quartet clocked
a time of 1:44.85, their fastest time of the season, during
Thursday morning’s prelims.
The Mustangs’ 400-yard medley team of Shoup, Stepp,
White, and Thompson also swam their fastest time of the season
with a 4:25.25 in the prelims.
Thompson, Shoup, and White also competed in individual events,
but did not advance past the prelims. Thompson was 15th in
the 50-meter freestyle prelims with a time of 25.51 seconds.
Shoup and White were 16th and 17th in the 500-yard freestyle
with times of 5:34.51 and 5:37.32, respectively.
Morningside placed
sixth in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay during Wednesday's
competition.
The Mustangs' quartet of Thompson, Shoup, White, and Stepp
combined for a time of 8:13.77. The Mustangs' best time going
into the meet was 8:29.66.
