Morningside College broke four defensive school records during the 2007 men’s soccer season.
The Mustangs allowed only 24 goals all season for the fewest goals surrendered in school history. The previous Morningside record for fewest goals allowed was 28 in both the 2002 and 2005 campaigns. Morningside also broke a school record with a team defensive scoring average of 1.15 goals per game to shatter the previous single-season standard of 1.40 goals per game in 2002.
Brian Schekirke, a senior goal keeper from Bellevue, Neb., was an individual record setter.

Tobias Tessmer has been named a 2007 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete in the sport of men’s soccer.
He was also named to last year's Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete team.
Tessmer, a senior midfielder from Magdeburg, Germany, has a 3.61 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with a major in business administration with an emphasis in international business. He was the Mustangs’ fourth leading scorer this season with two goals and four assists for eight points en route to second-team All-GPAC honors.
Tessmer helped lead the Mustangs’ men’s soccer team to a 10-7-3 record and the semifinals of the NAIA Region III Championships.
Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes must be of at least junior academic status and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Tobias Tessmer, a senior midfielder from Magdeburg, Germany, and Nate Mausbach, a senior defender from Omaha, Neb., were both named to the second-team of the 2007 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer team as selected by the league’s head coaches.

Brian Schekirke, a senior goal keeper from Bellevue, Neb., has been named the NAIA Region III and Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 22 to 28.
Schekirke had 16 saves and allowed only one goal in 195 minutes of playing time to help the Mustangs go 1-0-1 last week with a 1-1 double overtime tie against Briar Cliff University and a 3-0 shutout triumph against Doane College. He had nine saves against Doane to keep the Tigers off the scoreboard in a game where they out shot the Mustangs by a 19-13 advantage.
He earned the NAIA Region III honor for the third time this season and the GPAC award for the second time. Schekirke has 99 saves, four shutouts, and a goals against average of 1.02 goals per game this season.
