Chris Johnson, a
junior forward from Lincoln, Neb., and Zac Zalewski, a junior
defender from Lincoln, Neb., were each named to the honorable
mention list of the 2004 National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics (NAIA) All-America men’s soccer team.
Johnson topped the Mustangs with 13 goals and eight assists
for 34 points to lead the Mustangs in scoring for the third
consecutive season. His 34 points was the third highest single-season
total in Morningside history.
Johnson is Morningside’s all-time leader with 46 career
goals, 32 career assists, and 124 career points.
Zalewski was the defensive standout for a Morningside team
that limited its opponents to a scoring average of 1.97 goals
per game.
Their exploits helped the Mustangs post a 15-8 record this
season to set a school record for wins in a season, topping
the 14-8 mark they posted last season. Morningside finished
9-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) to share
the league’s regular season championship with Hastings
College and Northwestern College. The Mustangs came within
one victory of a NAIA National Tournament berth when they
reached the championship game of the NAIA Region IV Tournament.

Chris Johnson,
a junior forward from Lincoln, Neb., and Zac Zalewski, a junior
defender from Lincoln, Neb., were each named to the NAIA All-Region
IV men’s soccer team.
Johnson led the Mustangs in scoring for the third year in
a row during the 2004 campaign when he tallied 13 goals and
eight assists for 34 points. His 34 points was the third highest
single-season total in Morningside history.
Johnson is Morningside’s all-time leader with 46 career
goals, 32 career assists, and 124 career points.
Zalewski was the defensive standout for a Morningside team
that limited its opponents to a scoring average of 1.97 goals
per game.

Athletic Conference (GPAC) first-team and to the honorable

Brandon Wylie,
a sophomore midfielder from Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jesse
Miech, a junior goal keeper from Stevens Points, Wis.,
were both single-season school record setters during Morningside
College’s 2004 men’s soccer season.
Wylie scored the game winning goal in six of the Mustangs’
victories to break the former Morningside record of four game
winning goals by Chris Johnson in 2002 and by Joel Nelson
in the 2002 and 2003 campaigns.
Wylie was the Mustangs’ second leading scorer with 13
goals and four assists for 30 points. He was the Mustangs’
co-leader with his 13 goals, the third highest single-season
total in Morningside history. Wylie’s 30 points was
the fifth highest scoring total in Morningside history.
Miech had 5.2 shutouts this season to break his own former
record of 3.9 shutouts he set last year.
Miech had a 14-8 record, 114 saves, and a goals against average
of 1.83. He is Morningside’s all-time leader with 250
career saves and 9.1 career shutouts.

also dealt eight assists to share team honors with Johnson.
McCabe also scored four goals to finish fourth on the Mustangs’
scoring chart with 16 points.

Chad Agnew, a junior
defender from La Vista, Neb., and Jake Green, a junior midfielder
from Lincoln, Neb., have been named Daktronics NAIA All-America
Scholar-Athletes in the sport of men's soccer.
Agnew has a 3.98 cumulative grade point average (GPA) with
a major in biology. His defensive play helped the Mustangs
limit their opponents to a scoring average of 1.97 goals per
game.
Green has a 3.54 cumulative GPA with a major in general psychology.
He was the Mustangs' third leading scorer this season with
seven goals and six assists for 20 points.
Daktronics NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes must have junior
or senior academic standing and maintain a cumulative GPA
of 3.50.
Morningside's men's soccer team had a 15-8 record in 2004

Morningside’s
Chris Johnson, a junior forward from Lincoln, Neb.;
Brandon Wylie, a sophomore midfielder from Sioux Falls,
S.D.; and Zac Zalewski, a junior defender from Lincoln,
are all first-team selections on the 2004 All-Great Plains
Athletic Conference (GPAC) men’s soccer team as selected
by the league’s head coaches.
In addition, Morningside head coach Tom Maxon was named
the 2004 GPAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year. Maxon
guided the Mustangs to a 13-6 regular season record, including
a 9-2 record in the GPAC to share the league crown with Hastings
College and Northwestern College. The Mustangs will take a
13-7 record into next week’s NAIA Region IV Tournament.
Johnson leads the Mustangs with 12 goals and seven assists
for 31 points to top the Mustangs’ scoring chart for
the third year in a row. Johnson, a repeat first-team selection,
has tallied 45 goals, 31 assists, and 121 points during his
Morningside career.
Wylie, who joined the Mustangs as a transfer from Missouri
Southern State University, is the Mustangs’ second leading
scorer with 11 goals and four assists for 26 points. He leads
the team with five game-winning goals.
Zalewski is the defensive standout for a Morningside team
that has limited its opposition to an average of 1.76 goals
per game.
In addition to their first-team selections, the Mustangs also
placed Tim McCabe, a junior midfielder from Lincoln,
on the All-GPAC second team.
McCabe is the Mustangs’ fourth leading scorer with four
goals and seven assists for 15 points. He is the Mustangs’
co-leader along with Johnson with his seven assists. McCabe
was also a second-team selection last year.
Jake Green, a junior midfielder from Lincoln; Jessie
Miech, a junior goal keeper from Stevens Point, Wis.;
and Tyler Mogensen, a senior midfielder from Sioux
City, all received All-GPAC honorable mention recognition.
Green is the Mustangs’ third leading scorer with seven
goals and six assists for 20 points, while Mogensen is fifth
on the Mustangs’ scoring chart with five goals and four
assists for 14 points.
Miech, who also received honorable mention recognition last
year, has a 12-7 record with 102 saves and a school-record
4.2 shutouts. He has a goals against average of 1.65 goals
per game.

Brandon Wylie and
Jessie Miech have been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great
Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive
and Defensive Players of the Week.
Wylie, a sophomore midfielder from Sioux Falls, South Dakota,
scored three goals and an assist in the Mustangs’ wins
against the University of Sioux Falls and Midland Lutheran
College last week. He supplied both of the Mustangs’
goals in a 2-1 victory against Sioux Falls and had a goal
and an assist in a 3-0 triumph against Midland Lutheran.
He is the Mustangs’ second leading scorer with 11 goals
and four assists for 26 points.
Wylie received the GPAC Offensive Player of the Week Award
for the second time this season.
Miech, a junior goal keeper from Stevens Point, Wis., allowed
only one goal in the two victories. He had three saves in
the win against Sioux Falls and three saves in the triumph
against Midland Lutheran.
Miech has a 12-6 record with a school-record 4.2 shutouts
this season. He has a goals against average of 1.57 goals
per game.
Morningside will take a 13-6 record into the GPAC Tournament.
The Mustangs, one of this year’s GPAC tri-champions
with a 9-2 league mark, will receive a first round bye as
the tournament’s No. 2 seed. Morningside will host the
winner of the first round game between Sioux Falls and Northwestern
College on Monday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m.
Brandon
Wylie, a sophomore midfielder from Sioux Falls, S.D, has been
named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference
(GPAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Wylie scored four goals and dealt one assist in the Mustangs’
two games last week to help the Mustangs extend their winning
streak to seven games and improve their overall record to
9-3.
He opened the week with the game winning goal in the Mustangs’
3-1 win against crosstown rival Briar Cliff University on
Sept. 29. Wylie then tallied three goals and an assist in
the Mustangs’ 9-2 victory against Concordia University
on Oct. 2.
Wylie, who has provided the game winning goal in four of the
Mustangs’ nine victories so far this season, is the
Mustangs’ second leading scorer with seven goals and
one assist for 15 points.
Wylie joined the Mustangs at last year’s semester break
as a transfer from Missouri Southern State University, where
he was the team’s leading scorer last season with 12
points.
