Hamilton Competes At NAIA Championships

Photo of Justin HamiltonJustin Hamilton, a senior from Omaha, Neb., shot an eight-over par 80 during Thursday's third round of the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships at Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind.


Hamilton, who carded a 78 in each of the first two rounds, finished the tournament with a three-day total of 236. He finished in a tie for 104th place in the 144-player field. The field is cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals, including ties, after 54 holes.


Hamilton earned his national tournament berth as the individual medalist at the NAIA Region III Championships at Oxbow Country Club in Oxbow, N.D. Hamilton carded a four-over par 148 at the Region III Championships and defeated Morningside teammate Chris Rager and Nathan Schunke of the University of Sioux Falls in a sudden death playoff for medalist honors.

Hamilton And Rager Earn All-GPAC Honors

Justin Hamilton, a senior from Omaha, Neb., and Chris Rager, a junior from South Sioux City, Neb., have been named to the 2007 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golf Team.


Hamilton has a scoring average of 75.8 strokes per 18 holes and will compete in the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf Championships on May 22-25 at the Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Ind., after he was the individual medalist at the NAIA Region III Championships.


Hamilton has been the individual medalist at three tournaments this season. He earned honorable mention All-GPAC honors last year.


Rager finished the year with a scoring average of 75.0 strokes per 18 holes and narrowly missed earning a national tournament berth after he lost to Hamilton in a three-player playoff for individual medalist honors at the NAIA Region III Championships.


Rager’s 75.0-stroke scoring average is a new Morningside record.

Hamilton Qualifies For NAIA Nationals

Photo of Justin Hamilton Justin Hamilton, a senior from Omaha, Neb., has qualified for the 2007 NAIA Men’s Golf Championships scheduled for May 22-25 at Indiana National Golf Club at Plymouth, Ind.


Hamilton qualified for the national tournament as the individual medalist at the NAIA Region III Championships held Monday and Tuesday at Oxbow Country Club at Oxbow, N.D.


Hamilton carded an even par 72 during Tuesday’s final round to finish with a two-day total of four-over par 148. Hamilton, who was three strokes off the lead after an opening round 76, won a sudden death playoff against Morningside teammate Chris Rager, a junior from South Sioux City, Neb., and Nathan Schunke of the University of Sioux Falls to earn his trip to nationals.


Rager, who shot a 75 on Tuesday, was one of three players to hold the first round lead with a 73 on Monday.


Morningside finished in fourth place in the team standings with a 618.

Mustang Golfers Win Again

Morningside’s men’s golf team made it three tournament championships in their last four outings when the Mustangs triumphed at Tuesday’s 11-team Briar Cliff Invitational at Green Valley Golf Course.

The Mustangs finished with a team score of 294 for a six-stroke cushion over runner-up University of Sioux Falls.

The Mustangs had the top three individual scores in the tournament, including a medalist round of one-under par 71 by Justin Hamilton. Chris Rager was the runner-up medalist with a 72 and Brad Huyck finished third with a 73. The Mustangs completed their score with a 78 from Matt Ford.

Travis Hemmingson had a 76 for the Mustangs’ junior varsity team to finish 10th in the individual standings.

The Mustangs will compete in the Dakota Wesleyan University Palace City Classic on Friday and Saturday at Mitchell, S.D.

Hamilton Is GPAC Golfer Of The Week

Photo of Justin HamiltonJustin Hamilton, a senior from Omaha, Neb., is this week’s Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golfer of the Week.


Hamilton helped lead the Mustangs to team championships at last week’s Dordt Invitational on Sept. 12 at Le Mars, Iowa, and at the Wayne State Invitational on Sept. 14 at Wayne, Neb.


He was the medalist with a one-under par 71 at the Dordt Invitational and carded a 78 to finish eighth in the individual standings at the Wayne State Invitational.


Hamilton, who has a 75.3-stroke scoring average through the Mustangs’ first three meets, has led the team in scoring average each of the past three years.


Mustang Golfers Triumph At Wayne State

Andrew Martin and Chris Rager each carded 74s to lead the Mustangs to the team championship at Thursday’s eight-team Wayne State College Invitational men’s golf tournament at Wayne, Neb.


Morningside finished with a team score of 302 for a seven-stroke cushion over runner-up Midland Lutheran College.


The Mustangs won their second championship in three days after they had triumphed at Tuesday’s Dordt College Invitational.


Martin and Rager tied for the tournament’s top individual score, with Martin winning medalist honors determined by handicap holes.


The Mustangs completed their team score with 77s from Justin Hamilton and Brad Huyck.

Mustangs Win Dordt Invitational

Morningside had three of the top four individual finishers on its way to the team championship at the Dordt College Invitational men’s golf tournament held Tuesday at Le Mars Municipal Golf Course in Le Mars, Iowa.


Morningside posted a team score of 291 to top a 14-team field. The Mustangs had a 10-stroke cushion over runner-up Northwestern College’s 301.


Justin Hamilton and Brad Huyck each carded one-under par 71s to tie for medalist honors. Hamilton was awarded medalist honors based on the tournament’s tie-breaker system determined by handicap holes.


Hamilton was a tournament medalist for the second time in his Morningside career.


Chris Rager finished just two strokes behind his teammates with a one-over par 73 to finish fourth in the individual standings.


The Mustangs completed their team score with a 76 from Travis Hemmingsen.


The Mustangs will compete in the Wayne State College Invitational on Thursday at Wayne, Neb.
