Engleman, a senior catcher from Hawarden, Iowa, was named the 2009 GPAC Player of the Year earlier this spring. He slugged a school-record 16 home runs this season to shatter the former Morningside standard of 12 home runs by Chris Losett in 2005. Noteboom, a junior second baseman from South Sioux City, Neb., slugged a school-record 22 doubles to break the former Morningside single-season record of 18 by Juan Matta in 2002 and by Losett and Dalton Meyers in 2005. Noteboom batted .366 with one triple, 12 home runs, and a team-high 60 RBIs for the third highest single-season RBI total in school history. His 12 home runs was the second highest single-season mark in the Mustangs’ record book. Noteboom ranked second on the team with 15 stolen bases.

Morningside posted a 31-25 record during the 2009 season and finished sixth in the GPAC standings with a 13-11 league mark.

Morningside College broke five school records and tied another during the 2009 baseball season.

The Mustangs’ most prolific record setter was Wade Morrison, a junior pitcher from Arroyo Grande, Calif., who broke a record with 76.2 innings pitched and tied another with eight victories. His eight victories tied a record previously set by Kirt Bennett in 1988, Joel Rosacker in 2002, and Heath Horsley in 2004.

Morrison was the Mustangs’ ace with an 8-3 record and a team-leading 2.35 earned run average. He completed six of his 12 starts and pitched a team-high three shutouts. Morrison allowed only 50 hits in his 76.2 innings and held the opposition to a paltry .192 batting average.
