Dr. Peter Wood, assistant
professor of trumpet and director of bands at Morningside
College, will hold a trumpet recital on Friday,
Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625
Garretson Avenue. The free concert is open to the public.
Accompanying Wood
will be Morningside adjunct faculty members Matthew Geerlings
on organ, Michelle Grossman on piano, and Martha Councell
on flute.
Wood's program will
include Giuseppe Torelli's "Sinfonia con tromba," David Gillingham's
"Sonata No. 1," Robert Russell Bennett's "Rose Variations,"
Otto Ketting's " Intrada," Charles Argersinger's "Dream of
Venus," and E. Sachse's "Concertino."
Wood has performed
throughout the central United States in various solo, chamber,
jazz, and orchestral settings, including the Bloomington Symphony,
Columbus Pro Musica, Danville Symphony, and the Camerata Orchestra.
He is a member of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony
Brass Quintet, the Municipal Band, and the Wood Family Chamber
Players.
Wood received his
bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign,
his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
and his doctorate in trumpet performance from Indiana University-Bloomington.
He has been a member of Morningside's faculty since 1998.
