Morningside to host event on sexual assault

prevention and awareness

Approximately, 1.9 million women are physically assaulted each year in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. That’s one woman every 15 seconds.

Jan Grossnickle, sexual assault program coordinator at the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence (CSADV) in Sioux City will be the featured presenter when Morningside College hosts a program on sexual assault prevention and awareness on Monday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. in Roadman Formal Lounge, 3600 Peters Avenue.

The public is invited to the free event, which is sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS).

Personnel from Jackson Recovery Centers Inc. in Sioux City and the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Department will assist in the presentation. The event will include a question and answer session with the presenters along with an opportunity for students to create their own safety plan to avoid assault.

CSADV is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to providing support, advocacy, and a safe environment to victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. Through leadership and education, the agency works collaboratively with the community to promote social change and an end to violence. It offers a 24-hour crisis line at (712) 258-7233 or (800) 982-7233.
