The Morningside Department of Theatre and Dance will present a musical production of “Little Red Riding Hood” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in Klinger-Neal Theatre, 3700 Peters Ave. The production is for children of all ages.
There will also be special weekday performances for area preschools and grade schools. Those performances are by reservation only.
“Little Red Riding Hood” tells the story of a young girl named Red who lives in the woods with her protective mother. One day, Red’s mother sends her across the forest to take a basket of goodies to her grandmother. As she enters the woods, she meets up with a wolf who makes it his mission to discover what the basket contains.
Student cast members are Cat Ruddy of Minneapolis, Minn., as Red; Shelby Blomberg of Marathon, Iowa, as Greta; Elizabeth Planck of Omaha, Neb., as Grandma; Stephen Jessen of Exira, Iowa, as Wolf; and Wesley Johnson of Dakota City, Neb., as the Huntsman.
Students on the crew are Tiffany Green of Blockton, Iowa, assistant director, and Molly Baker of Sioux City, stage manager.
The production is directed by Tracy Bennett, coordinator of Morningside’s dance program. Others assisting with the production are Steve Lundberg, music director; Betty Skewis-Arnett, costumes; Kenton Jones, set director; and Ric Mohr, lighting design.
Seats for the weekend performances are $5 general admission and will be sold at the door starting half an hour prior to each show.
