Patrick Blaine, assistant professor of Spanish at Morningside College, recently presented at the Visible Evidence XX documentary film and media conference in Stockholm, Sweden.
His presentation, titled “Representing Absences in Patricio Guzmán's ‘Nostalgia for the Light,’” discussed an award-winning documentary by a Chilean filmmaker. It was part of a panel on the director's work, with co-presenters from the United States and Great Britain.
Blaine came to Morningside College in 2010 from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he was a pre-doctoral teaching associate and lecturer for seven years. He has a doctorate in comparative literature from the University of Washington. Blaine is active in the field of Latin American studies, and is currently revising a book manuscript titled “Criminal Democracy: Film, Narrative, and Social Movements in Post-Dictatorial Chile.”
