Alumni, students, parents and friends enjoy "Taste of Morningside" at 2011 Homecoming.

Morningside College celebrates 2012 Homecoming October 12-14

Food, class reunions, music and football will be part of Morningside College’s 2012 Homecoming celebration October 12 through 14.

Alumni, friends, Morningside students and parents will have the opportunity to attend a variety of events during the weekend.  Reunion classes honored during homecoming are 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1987, 1992, 2002 and 2011. Other reunion groups recognized during the weekend will include drama, speech and theatre majors.

On Thursday, October 11, Morningside students will participate in a talent show and homecoming coronation at 7 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. The events are free and open to the public.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 12, with a reunion dinner for the classes of 1952 and 1962 at the home of Morningside President John and Robin Reynders. Other alumni, reunion groups and friends will gather in the Mustang Grill at Buck’s in the lower level of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Ave. The musical theatre performance “Play It Forward,” featuring Morningside alumni and friends, will be presented in the Yockey Family Community Room in the Olsen Student Center.

An alumni art exhibit will be on display during homecoming weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 12 and 13 in the Eppley Art Gallery.

A full schedule of events on Saturday, October 13, includes reunion class receptions at various locations on campus, the M-Club brunch and athletic hall of fame awards presentation. The Morningside College Music Department will present a vocal and instrumental concert at 11 a.m. in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center.

The homecoming football game against Dakota Wesleyan University begins at 2 p.m. in Olsen Stadium. After the football game, “Taste of Morningside” begins at 4:30 p.m. across from Dimmitt Hall and immediately south of Peters Avenue. “Taste of Morningside” will feature music by The Rumbles and food from House of Q, Sneaky’s, La Juanita, Wild Bill’s Funnel Cakes, Miles Inn, Bob Roe’s Point After, Jerry’s Pizza, Palmer Candy, Tastee Inn and Out, and Dairy Queen. Tickets for “Taste of Morningside” can be purchased at the site.

On Sunday, October 14, a brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main dining room in the Olsen Student Center.
