Delta Sigma Phi members on the first day of their 140-hour "Stand Against Breast Cancer" fundraiser on the Morningside campus. |
Members of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at Morningside College will literally take a stand against breast cancer by holding a week-long fundraiser during which fraternity members will take turns standing on a wooden box for 140 continuous hours.
The “Stand Against Breast Cancer” fundraiser will begin at midnight on Sunday, October 2, in front of the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Ave. During the week, fraternity members will solicit passersby for cash donations to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. The fraternity hopes to raise $3,200 before the fundraiser ends at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, during the “Taste of Morningside” homecoming event in the college’s Lewis Park parking lot.
This is the fourth consecutive year Delta Sigma Phi has held its “Stand Against Breast Cancer” fundraiser. During previous fundraisers, the fraternity has raised a combined total of approximately $10,000 to support breast cancer research.
Delta Sigma Phi is the oldest and largest fraternity on the Morningsidecampus. Johan Frafjord, a junior from Moville, Iowa, is fraternity president. Greg Guelcher, associate professor of history, serves as faculty advisor.
