Jean-Guy Richard

Seasonal Shift No. 2

Acrylic on canvas

Morningside College exhibits paintings by Canadian artist

Paintings by Canadian artist Jean-Guy Richard will be on display in the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center at Morningside College from September 18 through November 17.

Richard was born in New Brunswick and raised in the French-Canadian fishing village of Cocagne.  He earned a degree in commercial design at Prince Edward Island.  Since immigrating to the United States, he has continued his work as an artist and graphic designer.

The exhibit presents some of Richard’s recent works, with surrealistic qualities, that he refers to as “geocentric.”

“The prairie winds inspire my art; the prairie seasons inspire my palette,” Richard said.  “The combination or blending of the animate and inanimate, and that fuzzy area of reality in between, bridge the land and the sky.”

A reception for the artist will be held on Tuesday, October 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Learning Center.  The paintings will be for sale through the artist. A price list will be available at the circulation desk in the Learning Center.
