Food and music attracted thousands to Taste of Morningside during Homecoming in 2009 |
Food, class reunions, music and football will be part of Morningside College’s 2010 Homecoming celebration October 8 through 10.
Alumni, friends and Morningside students will have the opportunity to attend a variety of events on and off campus during the weekend. Reunion classes honored during homecoming are the classes of 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1985, 1990 and 2000. Other reunion groups recognized during the weekend will include baseball and basketball players, choir members, Ad Club, and Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority.
Morningside students will participate in the homecoming coronation and talent show at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, October 8, with a reunion dinner for the classes of 1950 and 1960 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Morningside President John Reynders. Other alumni, reunion groups and friends are invited to a barbecue dinner and an evening of activities, live music and entertainment at the Rush Lanes Event Center, 3828 Stadium Drive, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Family Fun Plex at Rush Lanes will be open from 7 to 11 p.m.
Also taking place during the day on Friday are campus tours that depart on the hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Lewis Hall. An alumni art exhibit will be on display during the weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Eppley Art Gallery.
A full schedule of events on Saturday, October 9, begins with an M-Club brunch at 10:30 a.m. in the Yockey Family Community Room located in the Olsen Student Center, 3609 Peters Avenue. Reservations for the brunch can be made by calling 712-274-5315. The Morningside College Music Department will present a vocal and instrumental concert at noon in the Buhler Outdoor Performance Center. In addition to Morningside student vocal and instrumental ensembles, the concert will feature Morningside College Choir alumni performing with current student choir members.
The homecoming football game against Dordt College begins at 2 p.m. in Olsen Stadium. After the football game, “Taste of Morningside” begins at 4:30 p.m. across from Dimmitt Hall and immediately south of Peters Avenue. “Taste of Morningside” will feature music by the Fabulous Flippers and food from Bob Roe’s Point After, Miles Inn, Dairy Queen, Famous Dave’s, Jerry’s Pizza, Sneaky’s, Tastee Inn & Out, Jimmy John’s, Wild Bill Funnel Cakes, Coney Island and Palmer Candy. Children’s games and activities also will be set up on the “Taste of Morningside” site. Tickets for “Taste of Morningside” can be purchased at the site. A fireworks display will cap the day’s events at 7:30 p.m. Also on Saturday, campus tours will depart from Lewis Hall on the hour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The alumni art exhibit in Eppley Art Gallery will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday, October 10, brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main dining room in the Olsen Student Center.
