Tim Watson, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Morningside College, has been named director of the Siouxland Master Chorale.
The Siouxland Master Chorale is a community chorus for men and women. Two of its previous conductors, James Wood and Harry Moon, were also choral directors at Morningside College, said Connie Webber, president of the Siouxland Master Chorale.
“For many years our organization of singers rehearsed at Morningside College with our directors being Morningside choral directors,” she said. “We are happy to return to that situation as we begin the 2010-2011 season with Tim Watson as our new director.”
The Siouxland Master Chorale rehearses at Morningside College from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in Room 100 of the MacCollin Classroom Building, 3625 Garretson Ave. Interested vocalists are welcome to attend. The chorus will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City and at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at Morningside College for Christmas at Morningside. More information is available on the organization’s website, www.siouxlandmasterchorale.com.
Watson received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and his Master of Music degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. Before coming to Morningside College in 2003, Watson served as the vocal music instructor and director of music for the Le Mars Community Schools in Le Mars, Iowa. Choirs under Watson's direction have traveled throughout Europe and the United States. The Morningside College Choir toured China in 2008, and next year it will be featured in a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
