Morningside College announces new faculty members

Morningside College recently announced eight new faculty members.

The new faculty members are Tamey Anglley, assistant professor of music and director of bands; Michael

Calvillo, assistant professor of psychology; Cheryl Harrington, assistant professor of nursing; Keith Johnson, visiting assistant professor of business administration and economics; Dave Madsen, instructor and interim chair of mass communication; Jodi McKay, assistant professor of biology and chemistry; Christopher Spicer, assistant professor of mathematical sciences; and Lara Walker, visiting assistant professor of Spanish.

Anglley comes to Morningside after serving three years as a graduate teaching assistant at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Earlier in her career, she served as associate director of bands at Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas; adjunct professor of clarinet and saxophone at McMurry University in Abilene; and master’s conducting associate at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She has a doctorate in wind conducting from Texas Tech University.

Calvillo joins the faculty with several years of experience in undergraduate teaching and 20 years of experience in the business field. He has taught courses for Morningside College; University of South Dakota in Vermillion; Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.; and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He has held business positions such as director of training, human factors consultant and career development specialist. He has a doctorate in human factors psychology from the University of South Dakota.

Harrington comes to Morningside after years of local service in the nursing field. She has served as education coordinator for Siouxland PACE, which provides medical and social services to the elderly; registered nurse and special project coordinator for Hospice of Siouxland; and registered nurse for Siouxland Palliative Care and Children’s Comfort Care. She also has served as registered nurse for Mercy Medical Center Oncology and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center. She has a master’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Phoenix in Arizona.

Johnson joins the full-time faculty after more than two years as an adjunct professor in Morningside’s business department. He has served as a graduate assistant for Iowa State University in Ames and associate dean and dean for William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He also has owned and/or managed several businesses. He has a doctorate in industrial education and technology and higher education, with a minor in industrial vocation technology in education, from Iowa State University.

Madsen comes to Morningside with 34 years of experience in commercial television and radio in Sioux City, Iowa; Kearney, Neb.; and Omaha, Neb. Most recently, he served as station manager for KTIV-TV in Sioux City, where he also held positions as operations manager, production manager, promotion director and on-air talent. He also has experience in television news, master control room operations and radio operations. Madsen has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and is pursuing a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

McKay joins the faculty after serving as a post-doctoral research fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. She previously served as a post-doctoral research fellow and a graduate research assistant for Iowa State University and as an undergraduate research assistant for Idaho State University in Pocatello. She has a doctorate in genetics from Iowa State University.

Spicer comes to Morningside from North Dakota State University in Fargo, where he was a teaching assistant and instructor for North Dakota State and a data manager for the Mathematics Genealogy Project. He is scheduled to earn his doctorate in mathematics from North Dakota State within the next year.

Walker joins the faculty after serving as a visiting assistant professor of Spanish at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. She previously served as visiting assistant professor of Spanish at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., and as the Love Junior Distinguished Faculty Fellow in Spanish at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. Walker is a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston.
