Morningside College literary magazine selected as finalist in national competition

The 2008 edition of the "Kiosk"

The 2008 edition of the “Kiosk,” Morningside College’s literary magazine, is one of 18 finalists in the 2008 Magazine Pacemaker competition sponsored by the Associated College Press (ACP).

Out of 78 magazine entries submitted for the competition, judges from The New York Times Magazine selected 10 finalists for the feature magazine category, and judges from The National Poetry Review selected eight finalists for the literary magazine category. Other finalists included magazines from the University of Notre Dame, Harvard College, Drake University and the University of Illinois.

The winners will be honored at the ACP/College Media Advisers National College Media Convention in Kansas City on November 1. Audrey Hantla, a junior English education major from Sioux City and 2009 “Kiosk” editor, and Steve Coyne, professor of English and a “Kiosk” faculty adviser, will attend the national convention. Greg Anderson, an English education major from Sioux City, served as editor of the 2008 “Kiosk.”

The “Kiosk” includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry and artwork created by students, alumni or members of the Morningside College community. Morningside students edit and design the publication. In addition to Coyne, “Kiosk” faculty advisors also include John Kolbo, instructor of art, and Terri McGaffin, assistant professor of art.

ACP is a division of the National Scholastic Press Association, a non-profit education organization that strives to educate and recognize the work of student journalists to improve the quality of student media and to foster careers in media.
