“The Collaborative Art Works of John Bowitz & Shannon Sargent” are on display until Sept. 19, 2007 in the Eppley Art Gallery, 3625 Garretson Avenue. An artist’s reception will be held on Sept. 19th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the gallery. The exhibit and reception are open to the public.
Bowitz is professor and chair of the art department at Morningside College, and Sargent, a 2004 Morningside graduate, is registrar/preparer at the Sioux City Art Center.
The exhibition includes acrylic paint, acrylic plastic, collage, stoneware and earthenware clay, furniture, polychromed wood, paper, canvas, and a plethora of drawing media. The pieces are large measuring up to 8 feet by 16 feet. Most pieces are constructed from smaller segments that comprise a much larger unit. The piece nicknamed “8 ½” consists of 48 sheets of 8 ½ inch square paper plus 48 sheets of acrylic plastic. Each square has its own unique composition that contributes to the larger composition.
Eppley Art Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
