College to discuss campus recycling efforts

Morningside College students, faculty, and staff will examine campus recycling efforts during a program at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in the UPS Auditorium of the Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave.

The public is invited to the free event, which is co-sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS) and the Recycling and Environmental Committee.

The program will include a “State of the Recycling” report from Ray Turner, also known as “Cardboard Bob.” He is a Sioux City entrepreneur who picks up recyclable materials each week from Morningside College and other area locations.

It will also feature a video about recycling created by Morningside student Brian Johnson, as well as a panel discussion with Turner; students Anthony Rezac and Phil Lieder; and Sharona Ernst, the Americorps Volunteers in Service to America service learning coordinator. The panel discussion will be moderated by Kathy Olson, campus pastor and director of church relations.

Those who attend the program will be invited to guess how many pounds or tons of materials were recycled by the campus between Jan. 1 and June 30 of this year, and the winner will receive a free personal recycle bin.
