Sept. 19, 2007
The Morningside College Alumni Art Exhibition will be on display Friday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Eppley Art Gallery, 3625 Garretson Ave.
Morningside’s annual alumni art show features artists with degrees in studio art, art education, graphic design, and photography. It is held in conjunction with the college’s Homecoming activities, which this year will be Oct. 5-7.
Among the local painters to be featured in this year’s exhibition are Pauline Sensenig and Ann McTaggart. Also from Sioux City, Denise Turner of Izzon Photography will show two photographs, and Shannon Sargent will show “Recalled,” a colorful installation comprising numerous boxlike structures and toys.
Stephen George, an art educator from Remsen-Union Community School, will exhibit a surreal graphite drawing, and Carol Faber, an Iowa State University art professor who paints with a computer, will exhibit two sensitive mixed media prints.
“Garden Beauty” will be one example of color photography by Leah Godbersen of Arthur, Iowa. There will also be delicate porcelain pieces by Carolyn Blair of California. Blair’s three-dimensional canna lilies, petunias, and sweet peas are sculpted on thrown forms. On the other hand, Melissa Hamersma Sievers has used polymer clay to sculpt “A Couple of Characters.”
New York artist Michael Cody Drury will exhibit an abstract oil painting, and Darija Ljubibratic from SVA Advertising Agency in Serbia will have recent logo designs in the show. The exhibition will also feature art designs by John Kolbo, art instructor at Morningside; Randee Small, coordinator of graphic design and webmaster for the college; and Rano LoVan, coordinator of Eppley Art Gallery.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
