Morningside College to host presentation on changing face of local Latino community

Norma DeLaO, director of the New Iowan Center at the Community Action Agency of Siouxland in Sioux City, will present “The Evolution of the Siouxland Latino Community: A Personal Story” on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 11:45 a.m. in the UPS Auditorium of the Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave. The free event, sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS), is open to the public.

DeLaO will trace the history of the local Latino population through interviews she conducted with families who arrived in the Siouxland area from the early 1900s through the present time. She will also discuss her personal journey as an immigrant who was born in Mexico and raised in the United States, specifically in the Siouxland area.

For more information, contact Sandi O’Brien, director of Diversity Affairs at Morningside, at (712) 274-5123.
