Oct. 27, 2005 WOW schedule of events
Nine Morningside College students who participated in a 2005 May Term trip to Iowa film sites will share their experiences at Writing on Wednesday on Nov. 9, at 12:45 p.m. in the UPS Auditorium of the Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Avenue. The free event, sponsored by Morningside’s Academic and Cultural Arts Series (ACAS), is open to the public. Participants are invited to bring a brown bag lunch or purchase lunch in the college cafeteria.
The course “Iowa Films: Myths and Reality” included a seven-day trip to locations in Riverside, Winterset, Dyersville, Mason City, and Clear Lake, Iowa, for the films “Invasion Iowa,” “Bridges of Madison County,” “Field of Dreams,” “Music Man,” and “La Bamba” and “The Buddy Holly Story,” respectively. The tour also included visits to special sites in Waterloo and Denison, the Iowa Film Office in Des Moines, and meetings with three filmmakers and one author. Students will share photos and read from journal entries as they compare factual Iowa with images presented in movies filmed throughout the state.
The trip was organized and led by Dr. Marty Knepper, professor and chair of English at Morningside.
Writing on Wednesdays (WOW), now in its 18th year, is designed to feature writers and their works, from journals to published pieces. Writers of all types from the campus and community read their work, followed by informal discussions of the
writings.
