The Morningside College Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present a program of concert band music at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Eppley Auditorium, located at 3625 Garretson Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program will feature music by American and British composers. Selections will include works by Aaron Copland, John Philip Sousa, Gustav Holst, James Curnow, and Michael Sweeney.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is Morningside’s concert band. The ensemble’s objective is to bring the finest traditional and contemporary wind literature to its audiences as well as represent Morningside College in the community. The band performs regularly and has toured in locations such as Italy and Spain.
Wilson Wise, assistant professor of music and director of bands, conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Wise comes to Morningside after serving as a graduate conducting associate at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where he is also a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in wind band conducting. He has previous experience with college concert bands, marching bands, pep bands, and as a high school band director.
