Over 600 Morningside College students will leave the classroom and head “Into the Streets,” for a morning of community service on Nov. 2. The number of student volunteers represents over half of Morningside’s total undergraduate enrollment.
Coordinated by the Morningside Chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society, and involving other student organizations across the campus, “Into the Streets” gives students the opportunity to volunteer for numerous nonprofit agencies in the Siouxland area.
Students will spend the morning doing various service activities—cleaning, painting, doing yard work, reading to elementary school students—for agencies including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland, Siouxland Humane Society, Sioux City Public Library, Countryside Senior Living and Girls Inc.
Student organizers of the event are Kylie Helmink of Fairbury, Neb. and Miriam Pfahler of Pierre, S.D.
