The Morningside College choir and other representatives of the college will participate in the covenant service on Sunday, October 5, that will welcome the Rev. Dr. Julius C. Trimble as bishop of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church. The service will take place at 4 p.m. in Ankeny First United Methodist Church.
Morningside’s choir, under the direction of Tim Watson, will perform during the service. Morningside students Nick Grove of Grimes, Iowa, and Katie McGuire of Des Moines, Iowa, will participate in the covenant service as liturgist and candle bearer, respectively. The Rev. Kathy Olson, Morningside campus chaplain, also will be involved in the service as one of the presenters of gifts and signs of episcopal ministry.
Bishop Trimble began serving as the spiritual leader of the state’s 192,000 United Methodists on September 1. He was serving as pastor of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, when was elected bishop in July and assigned to lead the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church.
