Russell G. Olson, president of Liberty Banshares, Inc. in West Des Moines, Iowa, and a 1976 graduate of Morningside College, was elected chair of the Morningside College Board of Directors during its annual meeting on Saturday, October 11.
Dr. Craig Wansink, chairman of the religious studies department and associate dean of Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va., was elected vice chair of the Morningside board. Wansink is a 1984 Morningside graduate. Arlene T. Curry, a commercial real estate broker with NAI LeGrand & Company in Sioux City, was re-elected board secretary.
The board also elected 10 new members. The new members include James G. Carlson, chairman and CEO of AMERIGROUP Corporation in Virginia Beach, Va., and a 1974 Morningside graduate; W. Roger Curry of Saratoga, Calif., retired president of Consolidated Freightways and a 1961 Morningside graduate; Richard C. Engle of Sioux City, retired executive vice president of MidAmerican Energy Company; Dave L. Lageschulte, CEO of LTP Management Group in Fort Meyers, Fla., and a 1973 Morningside graduate; Dr. Thomas C. Narak, superintendent of West Des Moines Community Schools and a 1970 Morningside graduate; Thomas J. Rosen, president and CEO of Rosen’s Diversified, Inc. in Fairmont, Minn., and a 1970 Morningside graduate; the Rev. Julius C. Trimble, bishop of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa; and Donald W. Verdoorn, president of Celebrity Development Corp. in Englewood, Colo., and a 1955 Morningside graduate. Tarah A. Sagedahl of East Bethel, Minn., Morningside student body president, was elected as student representative on the board. Dr. Jim Stroh, associate professor of biology and chemistry at Morningside, was elected faculty representative on the board.
Cynthia C. Moser, an attorney with the Sioux City law firm of Heidman, Redmond, Fredregill, Patterson, Plaza, Dykstra & Prahl, was elected chair of the board’s academic affairs committee. Other board members who were re-elected as committee chairs include Thomas P. Grimsley, CFO of CW Suter in Sioux City and a 1981 Morningside graduate, finance/investment committee; James A. Walker, president and CEO of Heim & Walker in Minneapolis, Minn., and a 1970 Morningside graduate, institutional advancement committee; and Clifford E. Tufty, president of Motor Parts Central in Sioux City and a 1970 Morningside graduate, student life committee.
