Dr. William Deeds, Morningside College’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, was voted chair-elect of the new Kansas State University Department of Psychology Advisory Council at the council’s first meeting Oct. 18-19 in Manhattan, Kan.
“I am honored, especially since I met many of the other council members for the first time on the day of the election,” Deeds said.
The advisory council is composed of about 30 business, government, academic, and professional leaders interested in the vitality and relevance of the Department of Psychology at Kansas State University. It will advise the department on ways to strengthen its instructional and research programs, improve its facilities, expand its base of support, and serve its students, faculty, and alumni.
Deeds was one of about a dozen people invited to serve on the planning committee to initiate this council. The planning committee began meeting in the spring, and then he was voted chair-elect at the first meeting of the full council. As a result, he will lead the group during the 2008-2009 academic year.
Deeds holds a master’s degree and doctorate in experimental psychology from Kansas State University. He came to Morningside College in 2000 from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Penn., where he was most recently dean for academic affairs and professor of psychology.
