The Morningside College Civic Union is bringing to campus a tribute to Abraham Lincoln in which a first-person re-enactor will recreate the Gettysburg Address and talk about Lincoln’s life and the meaning of the address in U.S. history. The speech will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Room 101 of Charles City Hall, 3630 Peters Ave.
The event, which marks the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, is free and open to the public.
Stan DeHaan of Newkirk, Iowa began his Lincoln first-person presentations in 1991, portraying Abraham Lincoln to school children, senior citizens, church groups and patriotic gatherings. He has won three national Lincoln look-alike contests.
The Morningside Civic Union is an organization that brings together students of every political affiliation to provide opportunities for political discussion among students, venues for involvement in political communities, and a forum to work toward social justice.
