Morningside College recognized third-year nursing students recently at the 2012 Professional Beginnings Ceremony at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City. During the ceremony, the students received pins commemorating the work of Florence Nightingale.
The event included a welcome by William Deeds, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, and an address by members of the nursing faculty: Mary Kovarna, Jacklyn Barber, Lori Doeschot and Cheryl Harrington.
Sioux City students honored at the ceremony included Alison Hansen, Shelby Meredith, Kelsey Niles and Victoria Vondrak.
Students from other parts of Iowa included Kaylie Smith of Bronson, Kathleen Smith of Cedar Rapids, Vanessa Acosta of Denison, Stephaney Eckhart of Dexter, Kayla Miller of Fonda, Megan Deichmann of Marcus, Gina Winter of Rock Valley, Morgan Troshynski of Rockwell City, Tiffany Wiebold of Shellsburg, and Mary Guzman Muro of Sioux Center.
Students from other states included Sadie Cardwell of South Sioux City, Neb.; Meredith Wahl of Crete, Neb.; Brittney Andersen of Gretna, Neb.; Kylie Kneifl and Samantha Sorenson of Omaha, Neb.; Erika Voss of Jackson, Minn.; Breanna Turner of Aurora, Colo.; and Christina Powers of Huachuca City, Ariz.
