The Morningside College Music Department will present a jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert features the Morningside College Jazz Ensemble and the Morningside College Jazz Combo. The groups will perform songs such as “St. Thomas” by Sonny Rollins, “Shiny Stockings” by Frank Foster, and “Dark Side of the Blues” by Andy Classen. In addition to playing rehearsed music, they will play some improvised numbers as well.
The groups will host the Morningside College Jazz Festival for high school students on Feb. 11 and 12. They are also planning a recruiting tour through Omaha, Neb., and Des Moines, Iowa. David Lambert, assistant professor of music, directs the groups.
