The 61st annual celebration of the Hanging of the Greens at Morningside College will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. in the formal lounge of Dimmitt Hall, 3318 Vine Ave., on the Morningside College campus.
The Hanging of the Greens is one of the oldest traditions on campus, dating back to 1950. It begins with the simultaneous burning of a new yule log with a portion of the previous year’s log.
Then each class hangs a wreath on the wall, and each residence hall hangs an ornament on the tree to represent the memories of the friendships created that year. The ornaments are displayed for four years to invoke memories of the “families” formed in each hall.
The event is sponsored by Morningside’s Residence Life and the Residence Hall Association. It is open to the public.
