Morningside College students raise funds for cancer center

A T-shirt sales promotion launched by a group of Morningside College students has raised breast cancer awareness on the campus and generated more than $1,000 for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City.

Six resident assistants in Morningside’s residence halls designed and sold “breast inspectors” T-shirts as part of a campus wide service project to help raise breast cancer awareness among the college’s students, faculty and staff.

Emily Hemker of Rosemount, Minn., and Heather Nielsen of Ida Grove, Iowa, who served as co-chairs of the project, said the T-shirt sale was so successful that the initial supply of shirts quickly sold out and more T-shirts had to be produced to meet the demand.

In addition to Hemker and Nielsen, other Morningside students involved in the fundraising project included Casey Elledge of Oak Grove, Mo.; Tony Wiley of Diagonal, Iowa; Kayla Stehlik of Dorchester, Neb.; and Alex Weborg of Pender, Neb.
