Linnea Stenson, a lesbian studies scholar, will give a presentation examining the homophobia of the 1950s at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, in the UPS Auditorium in Lincoln Center, 3627 Peters Ave. This event is free and open to the public.
Stenson’s presentation will include a humorous and horrifying slide show on the cover art of the 1950s lesbian pulp fiction. The slide show will reveal the homophobia of that era through a contemporary lens.
Her presentation is based on an article that she wrote titled, "Drifting on an Unfriendly Sea: Lesbian Pulp Novels and the Creation of Community.”
Stenson is the associate vice president and dean of Minneapolis Community and Technical College in Minneapolis, Minn. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Augustana College in Ill., and earned her Master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cites.
