A Morningside College professor was elected to serve as an officer in the largest regional organization for Asian studies scholars in the United States.
Greg Guelcher, associate professor of history, was elected to serve as executive secretary of the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA). This is his second three-year term.
As executive secretary, Guelcher is responsible for handling all financial matters; chairing and compiling official minutes for the annual business meeting; identifying conference meeting sites; and judging, preparing and presenting student prizes for research papers in the various subfields of Asian history.
For more than fifty years, the MCAA has provided a forum for scholars and teachers of Asian studies to gather and share their latest research. The MCAA features panels where faculty and graduate students present and discuss new research and educational tools.
Guelcher, who has been teaching at Morningside College since 1996, received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster in Ohio and his master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Illinois in Urbana.
