Rebecca Anderson of Lawton, Iowa, and Nancy Perrin of Cherokee, Iowa, freshman students at Morningside College, collaborated with two of the college’s faculty members to conduct a workshop at a learning conference held recently in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The two students worked with Leslie Werden, assistant professor of English, and Susie Lubbers, visiting assistant professor of education, to present a workshop entitled “Fostering Critical Thinking Through Discussions & Journaling” at a conference sponsored by the Collaboration for the Advancement of College Teaching & Learning. Representatives from more than 85 colleges and universities participated in the conference.
The workshop focused on how open discussion and journaling are used as part of the Passport program at Morningside College to help new students develop a strong foundation in critical thinking. All first-year students at Morningside participate in the Passport program.
