A member of the National Council for Alpha Lambda Delta flew from Denver to Sioux City on Nov. 13 to present an outstanding chapter award to Morningside College students.
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first-year college and university students. Morningside College was one of five schools in the nation to have its chapter win the 2007 Order of the Torch Award on the basis of outstanding chapter work in programming, internal communication, campus visibility, and overall scrapbook presentation.
Presenting Morningside’s chapter with the Order of the Torch Award banner on Nov. 13 was Jonathan Rotzien, who served on Alpha Lambda Delta’s National Council for two years and is a 2007 graduate of Colorado College.
Tarah Sagedahl, of East Bethel, Minn., was the 2006-07 president of Morningside’s chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, so she accepted the banner, which will be on display at Morningside College in the Hickman-Johnson-Furrow Learning Center. Other 2006-07 officers were Kari Hansen, of Sioux City; Amanda Plemel, of Northboro, Iowa; Kellie Harris, of Omaha, Neb.; Katie Milbrandt, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; Katie Hoaglund, of Mapleton, Iowa; Jonalee Jackes, of Le Mars, Iowa; Melissa Campbell, of Graettinger, Iowa; and Andrea Jenson, of Pocahontas, Iowa.
“The Morningside chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta is one of the truly exceptional chapters in the nation,” Rotzien said. “A chapter like the one at Morningside appears only every few years on the national scene, and their success is due to an outstanding class of students and extremely supportive advisors.”
The chapter was advised last year by Dr. Marty Knepper, professor and chair of the English department; Terri Curry, vice president for student life and enrollment; and Daria Bossman, director of library services.
